Julius Crowell Obituary
Ninety-nine years old, son of Kathleen and J. W. Crowell, Sr. passed from this life on December 7, 2025, to live eternally with God and those loved ones who passed before him. He was at home in Lakewood Manor where he had lived since 2010.
Born on February 9, 1926, in Monroe, North Carolina, Whit moved to Richmond and graduated from John Marshall High School in downtown Richmond where he excelled as an athlete, being named captain in all three major sports. He then attended Randolph Macon for two years and continued his athletic endeavors being captain of the football and basketball teams and winning the state championship in baseball in 1946. After college he joined Industrial Supply Corporation where he later became president and owner.
Whit married his high school sweetheart, Wanda Darlington. They had three daughters, Nancy Dorin (Al), Cathy Miller (Curtis), Leann Thomson (Donald), and four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
After their marriage of 64 years, Wanda passed in 2011. Nine years later, Whit met Jean Ward at Lakewood Manor, and they were married on March 7, 2020 when Whit was 94 and Jean 89. Whit played golf with her son, Donnie, at Hermitage Country Club where he had been a member since 1968. He won numerous tournaments and made three holes-in-one in the game he loved so much. Whit was also an avid and loyal Redskins fan.
Granddaddy (Day) will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to so many. We would like to thank Cindy Murfee for her love, care, and concern for our father during his last months. Also, Joey Rodgers for his compassion and care as well as At Home Health and Hospice Care, and above all his wife, Jean, for her loving and constant care throughout the years of their marriage.
A private service will be held. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to Lakewood Manor Benevolent Fund, 1900 Lauderdale Drive Richmond, Virginia 23238.
