Junius Hardy Obituary

Sergeant Major Junius I. Hardy was born September 23, 1931 in Lawrenceville, Va. to the late John Hardy and Cora Lee Rice and departed this life May 4, 2004, in the Community Memorial Healthcenter, South Hill, Va. At an early age he joined Zion Union RZUA Church where he became a deacon and member of the senior choir. Junius graduated from Saint Paul's High School in 1950 and attended Saint Paul's Polytechnic Institute, earning a degree in tailoring. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1955. He started as an armored crewman and held many positions, including, section chief, platoon sergeant, petroleum storage specialist supervisor, chief instructor supervisor, chief petroleum NCO and sergeant major in 1978. Junius retired from the Army in 1985. It was said that he was the first Brunswick County resident to retire from the Army with the highest rank attained for an enlisted man. He is survived by his wife, Lorean Hardy; three daughters, Sandra Hardy, Regina Gordon and Marion Jones, all of Lawrenceville; four grandchildren; five brothers and sisters, Louise Walker of Lawrenceville, Lawrence Hardy of Forksville, Va., Edith Green of Maryland, Ada Nace and Laura Macklin both of New York; eight sisters-in-law; and his extended family Clinton and Gwendolyn McMillan; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held May 10, 2004 from Zion Union RZUA Church with interment in the Hardy Family Cemetery, Lawrenceville, Va. Brown's Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.
