Karen Schmid Obituary

SCHMID, Karen Elizabeth Fredrickson, departed this life on December 12, 2023 from complications of AIH at the age of 66. Her career included employment with PPG, American Door and Glass, and Glave and Holmes Architecture. Her father is James D. Fredrickson (deceased in 1987) and her mother is Agnes Fredrickson Stewart living at Richmond's Westminster Canterbury. Karen was born in Winston-Salem, NC and attended Reynolds High School. She moved to Greensboro, NC where she graduated from UNC-Greensboro, worked for PPG, and met her husband of 40 years, Loren P. Schmid. After moving to Richmond, VA in 1985 she and Loren had a daughter, nee Katrina L. Schmid (husband Paul Singh Croft) in 1991. She is survived by three brothers, James D. Fredrickson, Jr., Richard J. Fredrickson, and Eric N. Fredrickson (wife Mary Kay Monville), as well as her brother-in-law, Herman E. Schmid, III (wife Cindy Naylor). Karen's interests included dolls, crafts, gardening, and historical architecture.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church (903 Forest Avenue) on Saturday, March 9th at 1 p.m. Please in lieu of flowers, kindly make a contribution to Feed More or Historic Richmond Foundation.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, Loren and Katrina! Karen was such a special person and I enjoyed working with her for 27 years. I will miss her greatly. Heaven has truly gained another angel.
