ADAIR, Karla Jane, age 62, of Richmond, Va., passed peacefully on May 14, 2021 from a hard-fought battle with blood cancer. Karla was born in Milwaukee, Wis. on February 18, 1959. She moved to Dallas in the 1980s, where she met her husband of 27 years, Clifton "Cliff." From Dallas the adventure began, moving to Denver, then to Hong Kong and finally residing in Richmond.

Karla began her career processing and auditing stacks of medical claims behind a desk. While in Hong Kong she began, and fell in love with, volunteering at a senior community center. Her work with seniors soon became her life passion. Moving to Richmond in 1999, she worked at several continuing care centers finally landing at Lakewood. She said, "Working here feels like home."

Karla loved long drives in the countryside, traveling abroad and her most recent passion, beekeeping. Throughout her life, she always thought of others before herself, even in her final days.

Karla is survived by her husband, Clifton Adair of Richmond, Va.; sister, Linda Scruton, Huntsville, Texas; niece, Becky McNamara and her two sons, Sam and Jack of Oshkosh, Wis.; and nephew, George Muehlenberg of Bloomington, Illinois. Karla was preceded in death by her mother, Anne Muehlenberg; and brother, Steve Muehlenberg.
