Kenneth Payne Obituary

Kenneth Payne

Kenneth Reid "Kenny" Payne, 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 28, 2025, in Richmond, VA, surrounded by loved ones.

Born December 9, 1945, in Chesterfield, Kenny lived a vibrant life rooted in family, faith, and community. He worked and retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation, but his true joy came from sharing beauty - whether through festive holiday decorating, chauffeuring friends on adventures, connecting with special neighbors, or his daily walks watching the wildlife along the James River. With an eye for style and a heart full of warmth, Kenny lit up every room and never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his beloved best friend and former spouse, Charlene Payne; parents, Rebecca and Marion Payne; brother, Harold; and sister, Anita. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Jennifer Payne and Kristen Gregor; son-in-Law, Ryan Gregor; granddaughter, Alayna Dumet; and a large circle of family and friends.

Kenny's life was a joyful celebration of connection and kindness. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

A memorial gathering will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 3 at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd., N. Chesterfield, VA 23234. Kenny's graveside service will be held later in November at Second Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. Online condolences at www.morrissett.com.

Yesterday

Kenny was a good friend and a kind person. We went to Grange Hall and hung out some during the summer time. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Kenny will be missed. Carl Crostic

Yesterday

Kristin and Jennifer, as you both well know, your Dad was one of the nicest gentleman on this planet. I´ve asked Larry Ricks so often how your Dad is doing. The last time I saw Kenny was at O´Tooles restaurant. I feel blessed to have known your Dad.
