Kurt Johnson Obituary

Kurt, 76, was received by the Lord on October 21st after passing away peacefully at his home in Moseley, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leland and Betty Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela; sons Keith (Jessie) and Timothy (Megan); sister-in-law Lynda (Carl); nephews Justin and Kevin (Daniella); and grandchildren Korbin, Greyson, Rose, and Silas.

Kurt grew up in Oceanside, New York, on the southern shore of Long Island, where he enjoyed an active childhood in a picturesque neighborhood. There he developed a lifelong love for sports, both playing and watching. He spent many summers on Fire Island with his grandparents and fondly remembered hauling luggage for tourists in his small wagon.

He attended Syracuse University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1971. After graduation, he successfully navigated the corporate world with positions at Hooker Chemical, Albright & Wilson, and Afton Chemical. Kurt was respected and admired by vendors, customers, and colleagues alike for his honesty, kindness, and deep industry knowledge.

In 1977, Kurt married Pamela. Together they moved to Virginia, where they raised their sons, Keith and Timothy, in the Brandermill community just outside Richmond. He worked hard to provide every opportunity for his family while remaining an active and engaged father. The family shared many cherished vacations to destinations such as the Outer Banks, Chicago, and Zion National Park.

In 2009, after decades in the corporate world, Kurt founded Global Phosphorus Solutions. Using his expertise in phosphorus chemistry, he molded it into a thriving business. His passion for his work and commitment to serving his customers were unmatched.

Kurt was an avid sports fan, particularly devoted to his beloved Syracuse Orangemen. He attended multiple Final Fours and other major sporting events throughout his life. Later in life, he discovered a new passion in the game of pickleball, both playing and teaching. His love for the game quickly spread through his family, and he treasured time spent on the court with his sons and grandchildren.

In 2017, Kurt received an LVAD due to heart complications, but that didn't slow him down. He continued to enjoy life and play pickleball for years while wearing the device; living each day with determination and joy.

Kurt's legacy of hard work, kindness, and devotion to those he loved will live on in all the lives he touched.

John 14: 1-3.

Yesterday

These saddens me as I was just asking about him this week and wondering if anyone had seen him at the pickleball courts, lately. Kurt was a trooper and inspiration to us all as he didn't let the heart devise get in the way of him enjoying his time on the court. He has been missed, recently, but we will always have fond memories of Kurt and that wonderful smile when he hit a winner, right passed us. I also remember Kurt, Pam and the boys sitting in the front row, right side of the church at Woodlake UMC for many years. We were right behind you.
May you rest in peace in the arms of our loving heavenly Father, Kurt, and may God Bless Pam and your family.

Yesterday

Kurt was a colleague of mine for many years and I travelled extensively with him in the US as a tech service rep. I know his devotion to the Syracuse Orangemen as he always talked about them during our time together. He always spoke about Pam and his two boys whom he loved dearly. I last met him for lunch about 2 years ago during a "reunion" with Albright & Wilson colleagues. I offer my sincere condolences to Pam and his children.
