Laverne Faye Snead, 84, of Richmond, Va., passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, at The Guest House Community Hospice House. Born on November 27, 1941, to the late Ray and Lucille (Kniesche) Honecker, Laverne lived a life grounded in love, joy, and kindness.
She is survived by her devoted partner of 40 years, Linda Shumaker; her cherished fur babies who brought her endless comfort; Linda's sisters, Donna Westmoreland and Anne Regula; her niece, Michelle Mosley; Laverne's cousin, Carol Ann; and many other family members and friends who held a special place in her heart.
Laverne embraced every day with warmth and laughter. She loved softball, bowling, and the simple joy of being surrounded by those she cared about. Whether she was spending time with family, sharing stories with friends, or enjoying a cold beer on a sunny afternoon, Laverne lived life fully and wholeheartedly. Her generous spirit and joyful presence will be remembered by all who were lucky enough to know her.
Family and friends are invited to join us at a visitation in her honor on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Bliley's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Avenue, Richmond, VA 23230, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
A celebration of Laverne's life will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at Bliley's Central Chapel, followed by a reception. She will be laid to rest at Washington Memorial Park in Sandston, VA at 3 p.m. the same afternoon.
May her memory be a blessing, and may the love she shared continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew her.

Growing up Laverne was one of my Mom's, Judy Crews, best friends. I remember her being at my house on Christmas morning playing frogger on the Atari with me! She was always so nice, and my family has shared many good times with her. May she rest in peace.

I met Verne several years ago when she and Linda visited Linda´s sister, Anne, in Florida.
Verne had a lovely, funny, witty personality. I enjoyed her company and was so sorry to hear about her passing.
