Linda Matthews Obituary

Linda Matthews

January 26, 1958 - December 5, 2024

Linda "Sue" Bean, 66, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2024 at her home in Aylett, VA after a courageous battle with cancer.

Sue was born January 26, 1958, in Leonardtown, MD to the late James Lloyd "Bud" Bean Jr. and Barbara Fuller Bean. She graduated from Great Mills High School in 1975. She married Claude Matthews on September 7, 1985 in California, MD. Together they celebrated over 39 wonderful years of marriage.

Sue's career was in banking IT. She managed merger IT projects at several different banks. When two banks merged she managed the projects so they would be on one banking platform. At the City of Richmond, she managed all IT projects to ensure they complied with state and federal change management regulations.

Sue was a dedicated, hardcore fan of George Strait, the Dallas Cowboys, and Chase Elliott. She loved listening to music and George was her all time favorite. She got to see him in concert and was thrilled. You were not allowed to call or even talk to her when a Cowboys game was on or Chase was racing. She also loved to garden and maintained the most beautiful flower gardens around her home. She loved animals, especially all her dogs over the years, but her family was her greatest love. She loved when they came over to swim in the pool with her. She was a devoted friend to many, always staying in touch no matter the distance.

In addition to her late beloved husband (who just passed away on Nov 27, 2024), Claude; she is also survived by her devoted son, Luke; brother James L. Bean III (Linda) of Aylett; nephew, Justin Tiger (Marisa) and their daughter Elsie of Seattle, WA, nephew James L. Bean IV (Jordan) and their daughter Cora of Mechanicsville, VA; niece, Jennifer Bean Cook (Dylon) and their son, Leo of Mechanicsville, VA. and many beloved aunts; cousins; and friends who were like family.

Family and friends are invited to B.W. White Funeral Home, 7837 Richmond Tappahannock Hwy in Aylett, VA to reminisce and honor Sue's life on Wednesday, December 11 at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers please make a contribution to Hospice, 1924 Tappahannock Blvd., Tappahannock, VA 22560 in Sue's and Claude's memory.

Sue leaves behind a big hole in the City of Richmond's Department of Information Technology. Many comments in recent days give testimony to her impact here. Her professional contributions were always impressive, but her determination and tenacity throughout her long illness were amazing and inspiring. She gave us her all every day and was unwavering in her dedication to undergirding the work of our City.

One of the greatest things in life I think, is true friendship. I have so many teenage memories on up to the present I can cherish because of this wonderful person. I was very fortunate to have you as my Friend

Sue was a wonderful colleague who I quickly came to consider a friend. Always so thoughtful and inclusive regardless of what struggles she was going through herself. Equally as candid when something didn't seem quite right, which was one of the things that bonded us together - along with our love of gardening and animals. She was a rare, one-of-a-kind lady and I will miss her dearly. My heartfelt thoughts to Luke - losing both parents so close together is unimaginable. But I hope there is solace in knowing their battles are now behind them. Ms. Sue - you will be missed.

I'm happy and honored to have had the opportunity to meet, work, and become friends with such a wonderful person. You were certainly a tough woman, and I'm glad that you are no longer in pain. I will certainly miss all those jokes, videos, memes, and gifs we used to send back and forth via text. I will always think about you whenever I hear a George Strait song or watch a Chase Elliott race.
(Just for you) How about them Cowboys!
Farewell my friend, I look forward to meeting you again.

Where to start? I am sue and Jimmy's cousin Kimmie. We had great times at family events and I remember watching Sue and Jimmy getting ready to go out sometimes and wanting to go with them. I also remember at their child hood home climbing on roof with my brother. I you sue and I'm glad you are no longer in pain. I you to Claude. I am praying for you Luke and the rest of you all.
