Lloyd Camplong Obituary

Lloyd W. Camplong, age 100, went to his heavenly home Monday, April 10, 2006. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Jean Short. Remaining to cherish his memory is his only child, a daughter, Linda Campe and her husband, Ernie. He was born February 13, 1906 and was the last remaining of five siblings born to James and Evalinda (Parsons) Camplong of Hudson, Quebec. He attended McGill University and spent his early career as a construction engineer for the engineering firm of Fraser Brace. In 1952, he moved to the U.S. to build a paper mill for Bowater Southern Corporation, who later employed him as manager of their purchasing and traffic department at their new plant, Bowater Carolina in Rock Hill, S.C. As a young man of 15, he received the Royal Humane Society Medal for Bravery for saving a boy from drowning. Lord Robert Baden-Powell, founder of the Boy Scouts, personally pinned the medal on him. He is listed in the 16th edition of World Who's Who in Finance and Industry. His great love of the Lord led him to be actively involved in church work. He was licensed by the Assemblies of God and served as an associate pastor and an officer in the Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship in Charlotte, N.C. and Rock Hill, S.C. He enjoyed a very active prison ministry which he maintained until age 98. The funeral will be held at West End Assembly of God at 2 p.m. Friday, April 14. Private interment will be on Saturday. The family will receive friends at Bennett Funeral Home on West Broad, Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Friends may make donations in his memory to Ministry to Educate and Equip International, the ministry headed by his son-in-law, Ernest R. Campe.

Linda: As your father "reaps" the rewards of a faithful, Christian life, one of his fondest memories will be the way that you and Ernie provided tender, loving care for him in your home during his last earthly days. Blessings to you all.

Linda, Jill, Rusty, and I share your sorrow at Brother Camplong's absence from you, but we rejoice with you that your father has gone to receive his reward and is now in the presence of the Lord, praising God face to face for all the wonderful things that God did for him and through him.

Lloyd Camplong taught the Bible well because he loved God's Word, studied it carefully, and shared it freely. He and Jean were great prayer warriors and taught others to be the same. Through teaching, praying, showing hospitality, and simply loving others, they were a wonderful team for God. When Jean went to be with the Lord, he did a remarkable job of continuing his ministry. You indeed have a godly heritage in Christ Jesus.

Dad, Walter A. Clark, is in Greenville Place Assisted Living Center on Pelham Road in Greenville, South Carolina, the hometown of his wife. Upon learning of your father's death Wednesday night, I recalled that he had asked Dad to have his funeral service whenever he went to be with the Lord; however, the last time Dad saw Brother Camplong, Dad asked to be released from that promise because he himself recognized that he was growing older (he himself was 84 in January) and might not get to fulfill that promise. Perhaps the two of them will soon be together to worship around the heavenly throne.

Meanwhile, our family is praying for God to allow Dad to see Leonard's son, who is to be born in May and is to be named for Dad. On Wednesday of this week Dad saw Jill's first grandchild, a beautiful baby girl, born to Erin and her husband on Mother's birthday, March 14. He prayed a prayer of dedication for her that day.

We will remember you and your family in prayer. May the Holy Spirit comfort you now and in the days to come.
