Lorinda Butler Obituary

Lorinda Hubbard Butler, 61, of Mechanicsville, Virginia, entered the presence of her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, on Tuesday morning, October 21, 2025.

She is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Charles Howard Butler; daughter, Allyson Brooke Butler; mother, Carole Gilliam Hubbard; brother, David Glenn Hubbard (Cynthia); and niece, Katherine Grace Hubbard, daughter of David and Angela Giglia Wright. Lorinda was preceded in death by her father, David Millard Hubbard. She is also survived by her aunt Judy G. Willard (Donald, deceased) and her cousins, Amy W. Battaile (William), Andrea W. Wilson (Joseph), and Glenn G. Willard (Jessica).

Named after a character in one of her father's favorite novels by Sinclair Lewis, Lorinda was also a compassionate person and knew well before she graduated from Douglas Southall Freeman High School in 1982 that she wanted to serve and care for others as a nurse; she went on to graduate from St. Mary's School of Nursing in 1983 with her lifelong friend, Alissa Clark. Lorinda was a remarkable nurse and help to thousands of patients in her career of over 40 years, working first in Geriatrics, then Medical/Surgery at St. Mary's, and finally finishing with 26 years in the OB/GYN field.

Lorinda's service to others extended to hosting gatherings and excellent cooking – she was known for her Chicken Piccata, BBQ Chicken, Chicken Gumbo, Stewed Tomatoes, and Cucumber Summer Salad. Through the years, she loved her pets too, having many cats and dogs throughout her life with Charlie and Ally. Lorinda was especially fond of her dog Tuxedo and her boy cat, Merlin. She loved to travel, and her favorite place to return to over the years was Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to enjoy the peace and strength of the ocean during the day and a bowl of She-Crab soup at Sea Captains House restaurant in the evening.

Like the ocean that she loved, Lorinda had a spirited nature and a smile that always spread to others; may her long service and kindness in an all too brief and hard life inspire and comfort those who knew her, and may her memory bring peace and light to those who carry her in their hearts.

A Memorial Service will be held on November 8th, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a lite luncheon, at Truth Baptist Church, 8319 Lee Davis Rd., Mechanicsville, VA 23111. The family invites guests to wear purple, as that was Lorinda's favorite color. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Doctors Without Borders or the Hanover Humane Society.
