Margaret Knoernschild Obituary

KNOERNSCHILD, Margaret "Peggy", former Richmond resident, passed away on May 24, 2022, in Holden Beach, N.C. after a long illness. Peggy was born on April 8, 1939 in Georgetown, Delaware to the late George and Hazel Mears. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph "Whitey" Knoernschild. She is survived by her sons, Kevin Knoernschild (Kendra) of Holden Beach, N.C. and Kyle Knoernschild (Susan) of Elliott City, Md.; grandchildren, Jason Knoernschild (Leslie) of Franklinton, N.C., Alan Mabe (Meredith) of Clayton, N.C., Carrie Knoernschild Warren (Justin) of Fuquay Varina, N.C., Stephanie Mabe Kelly (Devin) of Wilmington, N.C., Kurt Knoernschild, Eric Knoernschild and Brian Knoernschild, all of Ellicott City, Md.; brother, Arthur Lee Mears (Connie) of Georgetown, Del.; niece, Stacie Mears Warner (Garon) of Georgetown, Del.; nephew, Lee Mears Jr. (Bekki; and many cousins, great-nieces and nephews and three soon-to-be-born great-grandchildren. Peggy was raised on the family farm in Georgetown, Delaware. She received an associate's degree in business from Goldey-Beacom School in Wilmington, Del. before going to work for DuPont in Seaford, Del. Upon her marriage, she moved to Richmond, Virginia, where she and Whitey raised their family. She enjoyed a 25-year career with the Chesterfield County Public School System, where she worked as an office administrator at various elementary schools. Peggy was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Richmond, Va. and also attended Providence United Methodist Church in Georgetown, Del. In her prime, Peggy enjoyed sewing, upholstery and many other arts and crafts. The family wishes to thank the fantastic staffs at Arbor Landing in Ocean Isle Beach, N.C. and Universal Healthcare in Bolivia, N.C. for all the comforting and care Peggy received during her final three years. The family will receive guests at Woody Funeral Home Huguenot Chapel from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m Tuesday, May 31. A graveside service and interment will follow at 1 p.m. in Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Peggy to Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org) or Providence United Methodist Church in care of Joyce Mears, 26544 E Trap Pond Rd. Shortly, Georgetown, Delaware 19947.
