March 3, 1930 - September 22, 2025
Maria Fraser Rachal, 95, of Richmond, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2025. She was the daughter of the late Douglas de Saussure Fraser and Maria Spady Fraser. She was preceded in death by her husband, William M. E. Rachal.
She is survived by her children, Ann Toll (Michael), and William M. E. Rachal, Jr. (Jane); and grandchildren, William Toll (Emily Grace), Sarah Giger (Alex), Maria Rachal, and William M. E. Rachal III.
Maria was born in Lexington, Kentucky, and raised in Richmond, where she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. She then graduated from Converse College in Spartanburg, S.C., attended library school at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and worked for several years at the main branch, Richmond Public Library.
Maria was a member of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church from childhood, where she was active in the Women of the Church.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 17, 2025, at Westminster Canterbury Richmond. Interment will be private.
