Marjorie Owen Obituary

Marjorie Owen

June 6, 1928 - September 16, 2025

Marjorie Parson Owen, 97, of Jarratt, Virginia, completed her earthly journey and went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

Mrs. Owen was born on June 6, 1928, daughter of the late Bertha Abernathy Parson and Ralph Hudson Parson of Jarratt, Virginia. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Marshall Owen, Sr.

She is survived by her children, Ralph Marshall Owen, Jr. (Cindy), Charles Hudson Owen (Peggie), Nancy Owen Grizzard (Barry), and Joseph Parson Owen (Tracy). She leaves seven beloved grandchildren, Eric Spencer Owen (Lynne), Allison Owen Arce (Sixto), April Clay Grizzard, Megan Owen Holloway (Billy), Hannah Drake Owen, Abbey Owen Ware (Shep), Marjorie Claire Owen Bradbury (Dixon); nine great-grandchildren, Spencer Owen, Hudson Owen, Knox Owen, Miles Arce, Wyatt Holloway, Waylon Holloway, Caden Arce, Owen Bradbury, and Fleet Ware; and many nieces and nephews.

Born and raised in Sussex County, Mrs. Owen graduated from Jarratt High School in 1946 and from Westhampton College of University of Richmond in 1950. She taught in the Henrico School System. She was an avid "Spider Fan," attending all football and basketball games at the University of Richmond.

She was a lifetime member of Concord United Methodist Church where she served in many leadership capacities and was very active in community affairs. She enjoyed visiting the nursing homes, the church shut-ins, and the Jackson-Feld Home for Girls and Boys. Bible study groups were a part of her life for many years.

Mrs. Owen had a gentle, loving spirit and treasured her time with her family and friends. She deeply loved her Lord and her family and was indeed happy when she could spend time with them. She leaves them a legacy of love. She truly celebrated life and lived by the Golden Rule every day, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

Visitation will be held at Owen Funeral Home 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 19th. A celebration of her life service will be held at Concord United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 20th at 2 p.m., with interment to follow in the church cemetery. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.

Marjorie was such an amazing person. Always so kind and friendly. We always enjoyed seeing in her church. She reminded us of a very classy lovely matriach. She was blessing to all.
