Maurice Rice Obituary

Maurice "Moe" Richardson Rice

June 26, 1940 - October 30, 2025

Maurice Richardson Rice, 85, of Henrico, Va., went to be with the Lord on October 30, 2025. He is preceded into Heaven by his beloved wife of 57 years, Betty Loving Rice; parents, Clifford and Catherine Rice; and brothers, Sonny and Jim Rice. He is survived by his children, Tricia and Michael (Michelle); grandchildren, Noelle and Ryland; as well as a host of adoring nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Moe, a Henrico native, graduated from Hermitage High School in 1958, married the love of his life, Betty, in 1960 and joined the Air National Guard in 1963. While putting himself through college, working and starting his family, he earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Richmond in 1971. He was a successful and accomplished businessman serving as a member of the Financial Executives Institute for over 25 years with a long career as an accountant working at such local institutions as United Virginia Bank, Baker Equipment Company and most recently, Richmond Residential Services Inc. among several others.

Because of his love for being a devoted public servant, he volunteered for several decades as an aerial observer with the original Richmond Metropolitan Aviation Unit, once headed the Henrico Police Motorist Assistance Unit, and was supervisor of the Richmond Police Neighborhood Assistance Officer program. Moe and Betty were longtime, very active members of Ridge Baptist Church where Moe served as a deacon, nursery worker, and bus driver for many years. From an early age, Moe was an avid baseball fan eventually able to attend multiple World Series as well as spring training games, and he became well known in the Richmond metropolitan area for his participation on several softball teams. Moe was a devoted family man, adored & respected by all who met him.

The family will receive friends Monday, November 10, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bliley's, 8510 Staples Mill Road, where a Celebration of Moe's Life will be held Tuesday, November 11, at 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow in Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (t2t.org). For condolences and to view a livestream of his service, please visit www.blileys.com.
