Maxine Powers Obituary

POWERS, Maxine D., 82, of Manakin Sabot, Va., decided to attend Jesus' birthday party in person on Monday, December 24, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Powers Sr.; son, George E. Powers Jr.; parents, Madison C. Davis and Lelia Kilby Davis; three brothers, five sisters, and their spouses. She is survived by her daughters, Ruth Gammon (James Baldwin) and Mary Tinnell (Ryland); son, Madison; George's widow, Louise Powers; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Powers loved her church family at Dover Baptist Church, where she had been a member for the last 45 years. She loved attending services with her friends at the Gospel Chickenhouse on Saturday nights. Mrs. Powers was an avid gardener and woodworker. She loved a good joke, both hearing them and telling them. She will surely be missed. Remains rest at the Woody Funeral Home, Parham Chapel, 1771 N. Parham Rd., where the family will receive visitors on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and where services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Dover Baptist Church.
