Max had a way with children that would instantly bring a smile to their face. I have fond memories of "Uncle Max" when I was a child (40 odd years ago). He was one of the most cheerful and extroverted people I ever met, and lives on in memory.

Max was our next door neighbor for 7 years and will always hold a special place in our hearts. He wrote beautiful poems when my daughter was born and we will cherish them forever. Max looked out for his friends and neighbors and was always looking for a way to help those around him. He will be missed.

We will miss Max. He always had a joke or story to entertain us. He was selfless in helping others and often drove friends on errands and to doctor's appointments. He was wonderful about keeping in touch and visiting with family, friends and neighbors.

I am in tears tonight upon reading of Max's death. He was such a dear, dear friend to my late aunt, Hana Emroch Silverman, who died two years before him. Hana and Max constantly and good-naturedly bickered about everything down to the price of a can of asparagus, but he was loyal and true and helped her so very much in her lonely widowhood -- traipsing to the grocery, the bank, and many other errands on behalf of Hana, who had never learned to drive. She desperately depended upon him, and his support never waivered. I believe that Hana's death in February 2003 affected him greatly.

I am just so, so sorry that Max is gone, and extend my deepest sympathies to his family. His wonderful, eccentric and very special character will long be missed.
