Michael Raven Woody, 73, of Hanover, VA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on October 19, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
He was born on October 26, 1951, in Lynchburg, VA. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and the 192nd Wing Virginia Air National Guard, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After retirement from the military, he worked for Joint Forces at the National Guard Bureau in Arlington as a Deputy Chief. Michael was a graduate of St. Leo College and the University of Richmond.
A devoted Christian, he served faithfully as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and director, sharing his faith with warmth and humility.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Hayden Woody; his mother, Shirley Gallaher; and his stepfather, H. Louis Gallaher.
He is survived by his loving wife, Terry Woody; his children, Jennifer Thompson, Michael (Chelsey) Woody, and Kathryn (Sam) Kindle; and his cherished grandchildren, Peyton and Lane Thompson, Everleigh Woody, and Graham and Natalie Kindle. He is also survived by his brother, Roger (Debbie) Woody; and sister, Sandra Stanley; and many nieces and nephews.
Michael will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and wonderful sense of humor. He had a contagious laugh and a love for music, singing, history, and family beach vacations.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road. A service and burial with military honors will follow at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Mount Olivet Southern Baptist Church, 2933 Mt. Olivet Rd, Bedford, VA 24523.
Michael's life was marked by faith, laughter, and love, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to bless all who knew him.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the past and present staff of Hanover Manor–Alpha House for the love and kindness they showed Michael over the past three years. We are also deeply grateful to ACG Hospice for the compassionate care and support they provided to Michael and our family throughout the past year.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association in Michael's memory.
