Mort attended St. Christopher's School and later graduated with a B.A. degree from Dartmouth College. Mort was elected Vice President of Neighborhood Theatre Inc. in 1952 and became President in 1967. He remained in that role until the company was sold in 1986. In 1986, Mr. Thalhimer became Chairman of Georgetown Enterprises, Inc. and remained in that role until his death. Mort served in the US Navy from 1943 – 1946, obtained his wings and became qualified in the F4U Corsair on the USS Guadalcanal Aircraft Carrier on July 27, 1945. His civil and philanthropic associations were vast. Some of which included: The Jewish Community Center, The Jewish Community Federation of Richmond, United Way, National Conference of Christian and Jews, The Greater Richmond Chapter of the American Red Cross where he received the Clara Barton Award from Elizabeth Dole in 1998. Mort and Nancy developed a love of skiing, and spent more than 30 wonderful years skiing with the children and grandchildren usually at Alta, UT. Mort was an avid outdoorsman who loved nothing more than watching the sunrise from a duck blind on a cold and wintery day. He spent a great deal of his life swimming, first for a local swim team, then at Dartmouth and ultimately with the Navy. Mort loved playing tennis and later golf with his entire family. In June he celebrated his 100th birthday with many of his former employees who loved him dearly, and another party with family members who traveled from various parts of the country to celebrate this momentous occasion.

What a good man. I loved the Regency theater. It was a real jewel and a great place to see a movie.

Got a chance to interview Morton some years ago for a Bon Secours video project. He was a man with class, dignity and kindness.

He will be sorely missed.

My condolences to all of you. Although it´s been about 50 years since I saw your Dad, I have such fond memories of him and your Mom. I especially remember your grandparents, cousins Morton and Ruth at Cape Cod with my grandparents. Keep all those memories close as they are a blessing.
Fondly,
Ellen Thalhimer Holland

Mort, Leigh and Richard,
My father Mark held Mort as one of his dearest friends. They had lunch twice a week when able over the last few years. They went everywhere and anywhere even gambling at Rosey's! Mort truly knew how to live and always put a smile on my dad's face. He will be greatly missed. He was a true friend and will be greatly missed. Our condolences are with you all.

Mort, Leigh, and Richard - I am so sorry to hear about your dad's passing. He was such an important friend and relative to both my mom and myself. After my dad's passing, he and your mom made a special effort to stay in touch with my mom. During the Winnebago years and the period of time that Leigh lived in Vail, he and your mom always made a special effort to be a part of my life as well. Over these last years, he made a point of calling me every so often to check in, wanting to hear all about of my family. My heart goes out to you all.
Love, Andy
