Nancy O'Connor Obituary

Nancy Longmire O'Connor

September 1, 1944 - July 18, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Nancy Longmire O'Connor, 80, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left this world on July 18, 2025, in Hardeeville, South Carolina. She lived most of her life in Mechanicsville, Virginia. Born on September 1, 1944, in Richmond, Virginia, Nancy lived a life defined by her generosity, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family.

Nancy is survived by her cherished husband of 63 years, Thomas J. O'Connor (Buddy); her daughters, Karol L. Godsey (Bill) and Lorie O. Hilliard (Scott); and her granddaughters, who she thought the world of, Katherine A. Godsey and Megan L Smeltzer (Collin). She was preceded in death by her parents Katherine L. Bomar and Ira J. Longmire. Her sisters and brother, Peggy S. Herrin, Violet L. Duke, and Richard E. Longmire; and her son, who she has missed dearly, Thomas J O'Connor, Jr. (TJ).

Throughout her life, Nancy epitomized the essence of family. She devoted herself to those she loved, always finding joy in doing for others and encouraging those around her to pursue their dreams. Her kind and considerate nature blessed the lives of many, whether by a simple kindness or her generous spirit. Nancy had a passion for travel and enjoyed the thrill of shopping, playing bingo, and testing her luck on the slot machines. These were moments of joy and laughter that she cherished deeply and shared joyfully with those she loved.

A private Celebration of Life will be held, reflecting Nancy's warmth and the love she so freely shared. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor her memory by dedicating your time to helping others, a cause that Nancy held dear.

As we remember Nancy Longmire O'Connor, we are comforted by the legacy of love and compassion she has left behind. Though she has departed from this earthly realm, her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us.

Yesterday

So beautifully written. Captures Ms Nancy perfectly. Ms. Nancy was a dear neighbor & cherished friend that I will always remember. I was so sad to hear of her passing and regret not making it down to SC to visit as she kept requesting I do. She was such a caring person who gave so much to others. She will be forever missed. Sending love to all of the family. She loved you all so much. Hugs.
