Nancy Pullen Obituary

PULLEN, Mrs. Nancy Ann Kerns, passed away peacefully at the age of 86, Friday, May 20, 2022.

Nancy lived her life by the golden rule — to treat others how you would like to be treated. In her words, "you get more bees with honey than you do vinegar." She was a true woman of God— a life-long member of Wellspring United Methodist Church; she was a part of a singing group with Wellspring known as Gratitude for 12 years. She was also an avid community volunteer; giving back to her community was extremely important to her. She was a large part of the community organization and advocacy for the approval and construction of the Riverside Doctors' Hospital in Williamsburg.

Nancy lived her life letting her heart be her guide. She never met a stranger. She was always eager and willing to help others — a true altruistic humanitarian.

Nancy was also the boundless "Mother Nature"; if she was not volunteering in her community, she was digging in her flower beds, carefully caring for and creating beautiful flowerbeds full of her prized daylilies, daffodils (jonquils) and azaleas.

Nancy was the eternal mother. She raised three sons, cared for her mother, whom was in ailing health, helped to raise and care for her seven grandchildren; she even cared for other children in the community as well. She loved children. She is often fondly referred to as "the baby whisperer."

Nancy loved her family most of all— and she was deeply loved.

Nancy was preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly 70 years, Gene Franklin Pullen— whom passed two weeks prior— their eternal love would not allow their hearts to be apart; as well as her parents, Thomas Marshall Kerns Sr. and Nellie Dunstan Kerns; and her three siblings, Thomas Marshall Kerns Jr., Carrie Lee Kerns Baldwin and Bettie Dunstan Kerns Murphy.

Nancy is survived by her three sons, Dr. Jeffrey K. Pullen (Gale), James M. Pullen (Sharon), John N. Pullen (Paulette); her seven grandchildren, Jennifer Pullen Wilson (Jeff), J. Thomas Pullen (Aline), Melinda Gale Kennedy (Patrick), Phillip Kerns Pullen, Rebecca Pullen Christie (Travis), K. Claire Pullen, Madeline Jane Pullen; and her five great-grandchildren, Mason Webb Wilson, Logan Gene Pullen, Jack Patrick Kennedy, Abigale Kathleen Kennedy and James Thomas Kennedy.

Nancy is also survived by her eight nieces and nephews, as well as 17 great-nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Wellspring United Methodist Church in Williamsburg, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Tithe to Wellspring United Methodist Church.

Nancy was a classmate and close friend of mine at Warren County
High School class of 1955. I will always remember all of the fun times we shared.

A beautiful LADY with a beautiful soul. Scanning the obits I saw her picture and immediately thought I know this lady. In the late 70's early 80's I was Nancy's hairstylist in Williamsburg VA. Her kindness, warm personality and non-judgemental attitude made her easy to remember. God-Bless
