Nancy Whitley Obituary

Nancy Peery Whitley, of Richmond, Virginia, died Thursday, November 4, 2004. A native of Tazewell, Virginia, she was the daughter of Governor and Mrs. George C. Peery. Survivors include her beloved husband of 60 years, Claud M. Whitley; her two sons, Claud M. Whitley Jr. and George P. Whitley and his wife, Cheryl; and her granddaughter, Parke M. Whitley. She graduated in 1934 from The Collegiate School for Girls and in 1938 from her much loved Hollins College. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of The Tuckahoe Woman's Club, where she served on its board. Burial will be private preceding a memorial service to be held at First Presbyterian Church, corner of Cary Street Road and Locke Lane, at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 10. The family will receive friends at Bliley Funeral Homes' Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Avenue, on Tuesday, November 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. and after the memorial service at the church. The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Nancy P. Whitley Endowment for Mathematics at Collegiate School, North Mooreland Road, Richmond, Virginia 23229, which was established in her honor by Stanley F. Druckenmiller.
