Patricia Blackwell Obituary

Patricia "Trisha" Whitted Blackwell, a lifelong learner and dedicated educator, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, at her home in Mechanicsville, Va., at the age of 92.

Born on June 18, 1933, in Warren, Va., Trisha's formative years were spent immersed in the history and heart of rural Virginia. She grew up assisting in the family general store, worked at the train depot, and helped at the ferry crossing the James River between Buckingham, Va., and Warren, Va. These early experiences instilled in her a deep connection to her community and a tireless work ethic.

A truly learned woman, Trisha excelled in her studies, earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Virginia. She channeled her passion for learning into a career as an elementary educator. For over 30 years, she was a beloved kindergarten teacher with Henrico County, spending the majority of her tenure at Skipwith Elementary School, where she shared her boundless love and knowledge with countless children.

Beyond the classroom, Trisha was actively and selflessly engaged in Richmond's 12-step community, where she shared her experience, strength, and hope, guiding many others toward sobriety and recovery. Trisha was the embodiment of selfless love, kindness, and caring, serving as a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to everyone she met.

Trisha was a gifted musician with a beautiful voice and talented ukulele player. Clyde and Trisha led the family hootenannies, playing the guitar and ukulele respectively.

Trisha was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Robert "Clyde" Blackwell; and her beloved son, Craig.

Trisha was the daughter of Clarence and Willie Whitted. Sisters, Clara Marie and Margaret Burrass precede her in death.

She is survived by her loving family, including:

- son, Scott and his wife, Cheri;

- son, Mark Blackwell and his wife, Laura Yager;

- daughter, Laura Claunch and her husband, Stephen.

Trisha was a cherished grandmother to seven grandchildren; and a proud great-grandmother to three great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the Covenant Woods and Hospice of Virginia staff for their compassionate care.
