Patricia Honosky Obituary

HONOSKY, Patricia Anne Johnston, Patty left this physical world peacefully the morning of September 6, 2022. She is survived by her younger brother, George Taylor Johnston III (Linda); her children, Sharon Honosky, Mark Honosky (Margaret), Pamela Harrington; three grandchildren, Max, Sarah and Zack; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors whom she considered family.

Patty was born at home in Mercer County, W.Va. Her parents, Irene and Taylor Johnston, fostered her love of reading, poetry, creativity and the desire to learn how to use almost any tool. Patty's capable 'can do' attitude and actions were reflected in every place she ever called home. In one way or another, this spirit lives on in the talents and interests of her children and grandchildren.

After high school, Patty obtained a B.S. degree from Concord College, W.Va. and later earned a master's degree from Virginia Commonwealth University with a major in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling. Patty's professional motivation to improve people's lives led to a much loved career as a mental health liaison with the Henrico County Department of Mental Health where she found the work challenging, meaningful and rewarding.

Patty's curiosity about how people lived throughout the globe shaped her travel itinerary upon retirement. Opportunities to glimpse experiences of other customs and cultures up close and personal brought her joy.

The family wants to share that of her many gifts and talents, most notable was her quiet independence coupled with genuine caring, kindness and respect for those she encountered, regardless of the circumstance. In remembrance, contributions or volunteerism to Barnabas International (give.barnabas.org) or any cause that helps those in need is appropriate. A remembrance celebration will be arranged at a later time.
