Patricia Magnone Obituary

Patricia Elaine Stokes Magnone "Patti," age 54, died suddenly on Tuesday, January 11, 2005, from complications of leukemia. She possessed a generosity of spirit, kindness, gentleness and strength matched by few. A reconciler, healer and non-judgmental confidante, she helped us all find what is best within ourselves and encouraged us to live that best self. We are grateful for her presence in our lives. Today, the world is truly a lesser place. Mrs. Magnone is survived by her husband of 32 years, David B. Magnone; two sisters, Susan M. Stokes of Richmond and Nancy E. Stokes of Newark, Del.; two brothers, Gilbert O. Stokes of Winter Haven, Fla. and David B. Stokes of Shelby, N.C.; five nieces, five nephews and two grandnephews. Her parents, Eleanor and Ronald Stokes, preceded her in death. Mrs. Magnone was a cherished member of her circle of friends (US). Mrs. Magnone graduated from Caesar Rodney High School in Wyoming, Del. and James Madison University. She worked for the Virginia Department of Corrections-Juvenile for a number of years. At the time of her death, she was executive vice-president for Business Development at Securicor New Century. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Bliley Funeral Homes' Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where a memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support the LGL research to the Moffett Foundation, P.O. Box 550985, Tampa, Fla. 33655.

David and Susan,

I just learned of Pattis's paasing and was both shocked and saddened. I was fortunate to know and work with Patti in the Pricor years and am a fellow refugee from the Virginia system. She had a profound influence on those she touched and I am richer for having known her. Her gentle nature, keen intellect and insight made an impression on me that I have always cherished and always will.

Dear David and Susan,

I too, just learned of Patti's death last evening. It

was a tremendous shock and I immediately felt a huge loss.

Patti and I spent endless hours, days, weeks and months on projects at Pricor and CCS. I will never forget her brilliance, her sense of humor, her diligence in service, her commitment to "behavioral programming", her rolling up her sleeves to do whatever needed to be done and on and on....Although our jobs moved us physically apart, my heart holds a very dear and everlasting place for my old buddy. I will miss knowing she is not there to accidentally run into at bid conferences, etc.

My thoughts are with you both at this difficult time.

Warmly,

Barb

Dear Dave and Susan,

I just learned last night (Feb. 7) of Patti's death. I can't begin to tell you how sorry and saddened I am. For me, Patti was one of those rare individuals whose wise words, gentle spirit, and kindness are carried forever in one's heart.

I first met and worked with Patti in the 70's. She was the most caring person I have ever had the honor and joy of knowing.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and Susan,

Dear Dave and Susan,

I am so sorry about Patti's death. I know what a wonderful person she was and how much you will miss her. Friday night I saw the most beautiful sunset I'v ever seen in Richmond - all different shades of pink, blue and gold. I'm certain it was a gift from Patti to all of us who used to watch sunsets with her.

She was a remarkable person who will live on through her contributions to changing the lives of others, especially those more vulnberable than she. If you approve, Securicor New Century will establish a student scholarship for our youth in her name. I will be in touch with you about this.

We will all miss her greatly. Please let me know what we can do to help you and Susan manage without her.

Love, Gail

There are few people in this world that can leave a legacy like Patti's. I don't believe I have met a more self-less person. She truly made a difference to the lives of people she knew, and through her work, youth that she didn't. It has been a privilege to know and work with her over the past 71/2 years.

I am shocked and so sad about this loss. Patti has held a very special place in my heart since I met her at Hastings during the start up. I will always remember her and her tennis shoes, even as a vice president she had came to work and get dirty if necessary. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and the Securicor family during this time.

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the past members of the National Girls Caucus Board of Directors, of which Patti was a founding board member, we are establishing the Patti Magnone Girls Scholarship Fund. Patti was a dear friend to all of us and worked tirelessly on behalf of girls in the justice system. As her NGC “girlfriends” we want to honor her commitment to girls by providing support for a young woman to continue her education. We will keep you informed as we establish this fund in her honor.

Respectfully,

Lawanda Ravoira and Marian Daniel

I was one of the first groups of people hired at MYDC by Securicor. Back then my last name was Hannigan. I can't remember if it was Gail or Patti that interviewed me. I've kept in touch with several people from MYDC and Bobbi Pohlman told me about Patti. I wanted to take this chance and say thank your for all that Gail and Patti taught me. It was a pleasure getting to know Patti and felt I learned a lot. I went on to gradueate from the University of Florida and now live in Las Vegas with my husband Dane and our daughter Lola who will be a year next month. I left MYDC shortly after the new company came in but will always have memories of my time with Securicor. Thank you again.

Sincerely, Heather Carter

I am so sorry for everyone's huge loss.

In our earlier years, Patti and I moved through the Juvenile Correctional Centers together, first Barrett and then Oak Ridge. I am thankful for her mild-mannered "words of wisdom" which I utilize often in my everyday professional and personal life. Whatever the situation, she would always take you to a higher level of thought which gave you a different, not so emotional response to a situation or person. I see her face when I respond rather than react.
