Patricia Patterson Obituary

PATTERSON, Patricia ("Pat") Wilson, was born in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1929. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, November 21, 2022, at the age of 93. Pat was the daughter of the late George C. and Marjorie McGarey Wilson. She is survived by four of her six children, Patricia P. Leighty and her husband, David, of Mechanicsville, Va., John W. Patterson Jr. of Newport News, Va., Leighanne P. Parrish of Waco, Texas and Scott Wilson Patterson and his wife, Suzanne, of Waco, Texas. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Andrew J. Parrish (wife, Kate), Kelcy Ann Parrish (husband, Lee), John W. Patterson III (wife, Jen), Pearl Patterson (husband, Bruce), Brandon S. Patterson (wife, Samantha) and Garrett S. Patterson (wife, Lauren). Pat was blessed with five great-grandchildren, Jared, Jace, Jordan, Wyatt and Lucie. Also surviving are two nieces, Sherrie Howey and Terrilou Branson of Colorado.

Mrs. Patterson was preceded in death by her husband, the late Reverend Dr. John ("Jack") Patterson and two daughters, Michelle ("Micki") McKay Patterson and Heather Jill MacDonald Patterson. Pat and her husband spent nearly 12 years serving as Seminary Professors as Southern Baptist missionaries in Colombia, South America. They also lived one year in Edinburgh, Scotland, studying at the University of Edinburgh. In addition, she worked 22 years teaching foreign languages (Spanish, French and German) in public schools in Henrico County, Va., Fort Worth, TX, and Hampton, Va. She also taught languages at Hampton University, in Hampton, Va.

Pat was a pastor's wife at Eureka Baptist Church in Weatherford, Texas, Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church in Richmond, Va. and Gambrell Street Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas. During those years, she served as Sunday school teacher, occasional pianist, organist, choir director, soloist, interpreter for the deaf, as well as teacher in the church kindergarten and elementary school. Her impact and influence in the ministries of these churches cannot be overstated.

Following retirement from public school teaching, she served as the first Association Secretary for Mid-Tidewater Baptist Association, always serving faithfully and capably alongside her husband.

The Patterson family would like to thank so many of Mom's friends at Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church and Cool Spring Baptist Church, who have continued their love for her during her final years. The family would also like to thank the staff and workers at Covenant Woods Retirement Community and Advance Care Hospice who made her final days peaceful and calm.

Services to celebrate Patricia Patterson's life are pending and will be confirmed and announced soon. In lieu of flowers, donations to the following ministries in her honor would be appreciated:

International Mission Board,

Cool Spring Baptist Church Mission ministry,

Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church Mission ministry,

McShin Foundation

Pat and Jack will always be cherished by our family, both those now with them in Heaven and those still here. Thank you.

Pat was a dear, dear friend to me and my family for many years. I shall miss her warm smile and twinkle of her eyes. I especially loved it when she sang and 'signed'. She taught me a lot about life...and death. She is in the arms of Jesus and with her beloved husband and 2 daughters. We shall see her again someday. Shirley S. Smith
