Paul Powers Obituary

POWERS, Mr. Paul E, Sr., went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 17, 2021. He was born on June 18, 1927, in Tallmadge, Ohio, the son of Matilda and Henry Powers. Paul grew up in Tallmadge with his brothers, John and Robert and spent his happiest summers then and for the rest of his life vacationing with his family on Powers Island in the French River Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada. Paul served in the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II. He attended Kent State University, where he received a B.S. in Education and Business Administration in 1951. Paul worked many years in the field of sales promotions. In 1977, he started his own company, Powers Promotions, which he actively managed until his full retirement at age 83.

Paul married the love of his life, June E. Boyd, in 1953. Paul and June lived in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New Jersey before moving to their current location in Richmond, Virginia in 1971 with their five children.

Paul was a longtime active and engaged member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Midlothian, Virginia, where he dedicated himself to being a friendly and faithful example of his values in action.

Paul is survived by a large and loving family who feels blessed and grateful for his strong, guiding presence in their lives and for the many memories he leaves behind as a dedicated husband, father and Poppy to the family's future generations. He is survived by his wife, June, with whom he celebrated 67 years of happy and devoted marriage; five children and their spouses, Gayle and Doug Park, Lee and Wayne Cilimberg, Paul and Karen Powers, Jim and Marion Powers and Chris and Rick McMahon; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whose lives were immeasurably enriched by his love, spirit of fun and joy and Euchre playing.

A Celebration of Life for Paul will be held Saturday, November 6 at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church, located at 9800 W. Huguenot Road, Richmond, Virginia 23235. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Memorial Fund at Christ the King Church will be gratefully accepted.

Mr. Powers provided promotional products for my place of employment for decades! I was blessed to work directly with him on many projects. He was such a lovely man and it was always a treat when he visited. I still have some items bearing the old Powers Promotions logo! I know he is sorely missed and I am praying for peace and comfort for his family.

So sorry to hear the lost of such an inspiring person. Paul hired me many years ago with Brown and Bigelow. How fortunate I was to have such a steady and guiding influence in my life at that time of change. God Bless June and all of his family members that had the opportunity to be around such a fine person.

It is with a heavy heart that I learned of Paul´s passing. Except for June I never had the opportunity to meet the rest of the family, however, Paul talked proudly about all of you every time we talked.

I first met Paul back in 1978 in Clarksville, VA. It was a time in my life when I had a lot going on and was looking to change careers. Paul offered me a job as a salesperson with Brown & Bigelow. Keep in mind, I had no sales training or experience, but he had enough faith in me as a person to give me a chance. I was with Brown & Bigelow for a couple of years and through his guidance was able to be very successful. I then moved on to supplier Bright of America where I became Vice President and then to Pioneer Balloon where I served as Vice President for 33 years. During my career I was honored to be Chairman of the Board of the Promotional Products Association International. I explain all of this because without the chance Paul gave me I would have never even known that the promotional products industry existed.

We stayed in touch over the years and I took he and June out to dinner once when I was travelling to Richmond. I talked with Paul several months ago and he updated me on how he and June were doing. I have been sending Paul a calendar of photos my wife, Norma, took, but I wasn´t sure I had their latest address so I tried calling him, but found out the number was no longer in service. So that´s how I found out he had passed away.

As we go through life there are only a handful of friends that truly make a difference in your life. Paul was one for me. He was a caring and thoughtful man that will be sorely missed by me and all his family. He
positively touched the lives of many people and left a lasting legacy.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of the family.

We thank God for the life and faithfulness of our brother in Christ. It was our joy and blessing to know and serve with Paul and June during our first pastorate at Christ the King from 1984-89. We send the entire family our Christian love and heartfelt condolences. First John 3:1-3
