Peggy Christian Obituary

CHRISTIAN, Peggy Cone, On October 5, 2023, Peg received her golden knitting needles and went to the Almighty's Knitting Circle to continue the ministry that she started many years ago. This ministry, at Westover Episcopal Church, has provided many warm, comfortable shawls, "throws" and scarves that are filled with her prayers and love to those who are sick or in need. Preceding her in death was her father, George Franklin Cone and her mother, Frances Faulconer Cone. Peg is survived by her husband, John Coleman "Jack" Christian, Jr.; sons, Michael John Tardy, Jr. (Paola) and Paul Franklin Tardy (Steve) of Baltimore, Md.; and stepson, Gordon Coleman Christian (Kelly); grandchildren, Peyton Sebastian Tardy and Pierce Evan Christian and Yeardley Grace Christian; brother, Richard Clinton "Rick" Cone (Mary Ellen) and niece, Brandy Leah Wright; sister, Judith Cone Butler (Bruce) and niece, Keri Butler Cozino; and also, brother-in-law, William Edward "Ned" Christian (Sharon) of Charles City, Va.

Peg was born in Richmond, Va. and graduated from John Marshall HS during which time she worked as a "candy striper" at what was then Richmond Memorial Hospital. She attended Virginia Commonwealth University where she earned a BS in Computer Programming with a concentration in Mathematics.

After graduation, Peg obtained a position at the Virginia Department of Highways (now VDOT) as a programmer. There she climbed the ladder in Information Technology until she broke through the glass ceiling and was named the Director of Information Technology. After several years she moved to the State Corporation Commission in the same position after which she retired from public service. Still wanting to learn more, and continue working in her field, she was hired at Capital One Bank where she worked for another ten years.

At Westover Church she served on the Vestry and also as Senior Warden. Her greatest spiritual fulfillment came from her interaction with the kids in her Sunday School class and watching them mature in their spiritual lives. Peg cherished a close fellowship with her high school group, JMHS 64, at monthly dinners and other occasions. The family would like to thank all those who gave their prayers, love and care to Peg, especially Vicki Henson, Jane Behrend (JMHS 64) and Sisters-in-Law Mary Ellen and Sharon, during her four-year battle with metastatic cancer. She was a lovely, generous person who will be greatly missed by her family and those from her spiritual and social lives.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at Westover Episcopal Church, 6401 John Tyler Memorial Hwy., Charles City, Va.

Peggy put herself in God´s hands, she was strong and fought until the end. When God reached down and took her hand He said "well done my good and faithful servant, welcome!" Jack´s love for Peg was shown thru the unending care he gave her. She will be missed. Heaven has gained another angel.
