GRAINGER, Peter John, of Mechanicsville, Va., passed away on October 6, 2021, in Mechanicsville, Va. He was born in Birmingham, U.K. to William and Maisie Grainger on April 24, 1947. Pete came to the U.S. in 1999 and ultimately settled in the Richmond area. Prior to leaving the U.K., Pete owned The Crown Pub in Higham and also ran a plumbing business. Most recently, Pete worked for Kelleher HVAC for 20 years. Pete is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen; daughter, Emma, her husband, Jonpaul; grandson, Joseph Sainty; stepdaughter, Jacqueline and husband, Kevin O'Keefe; two sisters, Teresa and Shirley; and three brothers, Kevin, Desmond and Michael. He was predeceased by two sisters, Susan and Petula; and two brothers, Steven and Douglas. Pete was happiest when surrounded by family and enjoyed watching his grandson play English football. He also had an intense love for the game of golf and Formula One racing. When he wasn't on the golf course, Pete could be found in his garage playing Elton John or Leonard Cohen, or working around the house on his many projects. Being from the U.K., Pete learned to appreciate American football and some good Southern iced tea. He was always willing to help out a neighbor and loved nothing more than a proper cup of tea and a game of Horse Race Rummy. The family will welcome visitors from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, October 16, at their home in Mechanicsville, 6335 Pleasant Run Lane, 23111. Please come and share your Pete stories with us. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Heart Association would be appreciated.

Mary Ellen and family, We are so sorry to hear about Peter. He was a special person and wowed us with his energy while working together on Belmont. It was meeting our incredible neighbors that ended up being the best aspect of the entire project. Please know we are thinking of all of you and Peter. Sincerely, Emily and Ethan

Pete came into our lives a few years ago as our around the house handyman per a referral from a friend. It quickly forged into a friendship and it didn't hurt that my wife Rachel is from England. So, needless to say, the tea would be flowing and the conversation was lively. A genuine, nice man and great at what he did. We will miss him a great deal. Our sincerest condolences to Mary Ellen and his family.

Mr. Grainger came into the dentist office where I used to work. I can say this man LOVED HIS WIFE!!! It was such a pleasure to hear a man talk good of his significant partner. I am so sorry for your loss. Please know he made a impact on everyone he met. He was a good man a family man! Mrs. Grainger just know this man really really adored you. and He had no problem voicing it. Quite cool I say, very rare. May peace find a way to your heart and settle in. He will always be by your side.
