Pleasant Bagby Obituary

Pleasant Harwood Bagby, age 93, of Easton, Maryland, died on January 26, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Elizabeth Walker Bagby; three children, Anne Gordon Bagby Orange of Chapin, S.C., Elizabeth Bagby Tong of Easton, Pleasant Harwood Bagby Jr. of Charlottesville, Virginia; six grandchildren, Henry Gordon Orange, Elizabeth Walker Orange, Anne English Tong, Chloe Campbell Tong, Thomas Tillar Bagby and Henley Rawlings Bagby; and one brother, Richard Hugh Bagby of Richmond, Virginia. A native of Richmond, Mr. Bagby was former Chairman of the Board of Pollard & Bagby, Inc. Realtors. He attended local schools, then graduated from Virginia Military Institute in 1932, becoming a member of Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity at Washington and Lee University. During World War II, Mr. Bagby served with the Armed Forces from 1941 to 1946 attaining the rank of Lt. Colonel. He was awarded the Medalha de Guerra by the Brazilian Minister of War. Returning home he worked with the family firm, later becoming president of the Richmond Board of Realtors and President of the local Appraisal Society and Vice President of the Virginia Association of Realtors. He served as a Chairman of the Charles City Planning Commission. He was a member and former vestryman of Westover Episcopal Church, a life member of the Commonwealth Club and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 9, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Virginia Military Institution Foundation, P.O. Box 1577, Lexington, Virginia 24450.
