Reuben William Farley

September 21, 1940 - October 31, 2025

Dr. Reuben William Farley, "Pops," 85, of King William, passed peacefully on October 31, 2025, and joined his wife, Nancy Ann Farley, in heaven. He was the son of the late Joseph and Mabel Farley. Dr. Farley was a graduate of Randolph-Macon College and the University of Tennessee.

Dr. Farley lived a full and joyful life, embracing the outdoors through hunting, fishing, and crabbing. He cherished time with his animals. He was an avid sports fan, faithfully cheering for the Rams, the Vols, the Redskins, and the Braves. Known for wearing many hats, he coached sports, tackled DIY projects, and was always ready to lend a helping hand to friends and family.

Dr. Farley spent his career as a Professor of Mathematical Science at Richmond Professional Institute, Randolph-Macon College, University of Houston, University of Tennessee, and proudly retired from Virginia Commonwealth University. He was a founding Member of the Virginia Mathematics and Science Coalition. Dr. Farley touched the lives of his colleagues and students for over 50 years.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Laura Lowry (Josh) granddaughters, Cora and Emilia; son, Benjamin Farley (Kristen, Jack and Cameron); more brother than in-law, Ed Luther, and sister-in-law Diane Luther; brother-in-law, Bob Guzensky; nieces, Sarah and Hannah; nephews, Matt and Josh; his dog, Brutus; other family members and friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Bliley's – Staples Mill, 5801 Staples Mill Rd., Richmond, VA 23238, where a ceremony will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 12 noon. Interment will follow at Signal Hill Memorial Park in Hanover, VA, with a reception afterwards.

To honor Dr. Farley's memory, the family affectionately requests that you dust off your math skills and give them a try at solving a simple math equation before reaching for your calculator.
