Richard B. Bowser

Richard B. Bowser, 82, of Richmond, passed away December 26, 2003 at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie G. Harlan Bowser. He survived by a daughter, Susan L. Burton of Richmond; sons, James C. Bowser of Cape Cod, Mass., and Richard D. Bowser Jr. of Washington, D.C.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one sister, Lucille Smith of Olney, Md. Mr. Bowser invented the elevator system for the St. Louis Arch (Jefferson Expansion Memorial). He was the co-inventor of the Bowser Parking Systems and designed the grandstand lift system for the IBM Pavilion in the 1964 New York World Fair. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the destroyer U.S.S. Wadsworth. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 29, at Gayton Terrace. Memorial donations may be made to Bon Secours Hospice of Richmond.
