Richard Robertson Obituary

Richard H. Robertson

Mar 15, 1944 - Jul 6, 2024

Richard H. Robertson, 80, of N. Chesterfield, VA, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 6, 2024. He was born on March 15, 1944, to the late Richard M. Robertson and Ruth H. Robertson. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon K. Robertson; son, Richard "Rob" S. Robertson (Hailey); daughter, Kristen R.W. Hicks (Ray); brother, David M. Robertson (Robin); sister, Ruth Anne R. Curtin (Chris); grandchildren, Carly Hicks, Holden Robertson, and Maddox Wright. Richard was a graduate of VCU with a master's degree in business, and taught at VCU in the beginnings of the IT program. He co-authored the first high school IT textbook for the state of VA. He completed his career as an Administrator of IT at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College. As a member of Beulah United Methodist Church, he spent 25 years as contributions secretary, choir member, and held other leadership roles. He spent many hours watching his children's and grandchildren's sporting events and activities. When he wasn't working, his ideal way to relax was to spend time at his home in Holden Beach in NC. Richard is like the seashells collected on the shore, a treasure to cherish forever. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him, especially his family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to Chester United Methodist Church or James River Hospice.

A Memorial Service will be held at Chester United Methodist Church, on Friday, July 12, 2024, at 11 a.m.

I was surprised and saddened when I came across Richard´s obituary online. We were high school sweethearts and prom dates many years ago. He was a truly good person and I wanted to offer you my sincere condolences a bit late but nonetheless sincere.

I was so sorry to learn about Richard. It has been some time since we have seen one another, but he has never been lost from my memory. From the times we spent together traveling to see Sharon at college in Greensboro, to our times at his home I will always remember the good times we had together. May his good deeds and kind heart always be remembered by those who knew him.

I was deeply saddened and shocked to learn of Richard´s passing. I owe my career to Richard when he hired me in 1979 and gave me to opportunity to work for him for 27 years until he retired in 2006 from J. Sargeant Reynolds. He was a dear friend, boss and coworker to me. Thinking of the family during this difficult time. May God strengthen and comfort you in the days and weeks ahead.

I am so sorry to hear of Richard's passing. I was a co-worker of Richard's for many years at JSRCC and even took my first IT-related course under him. He knew how nervous I was so he make a special stop at my office to let me know my grade. I know he will be missed by his family and friends. Condolences.
