Richard Tripp Obituary
Richard "Glenn" Tripp, 78, of Powhatan, VA, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2025.
Glenn was born on January 24, 1947, in Greenville, NC, to the late James (JB) and Dean Tripp. Glenn often reminisced about his joyful childhood with Dean and JB, and his memories with his big brother, Jimmy, and little brother, Mike. At 18, he proudly served in the Vietnam War as a United States Marine with the 1st Battalion, 27th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. Glenn was immensely proud of his years in the Marine Corps and never missed an opportunity to celebrate and honor the USMC.
Following his time in the service, Glenn had a long and rewarding career at DuPont, where he made countless connections and lifelong friends. In retirement, Glenn continued to use his gregarious personality and warm nature to build his own business selling industrial HVAC equipment.
In 2001, Glenn married Sylvia Tripp, and together they built a life filled with love, adventure, laughter, and family. Glenn was a devoted husband, stepfather, uncle, brother, and "G-Pop." He loved sharing stories and life lessons with his family, playing the banjo at the Moose Club, spending time at the river on his boat, and-more than anything-helping wherever and whenever he was needed. Glenn never met a stranger and made friends and connections wherever he went.
Glenn will be remembered for his kindness, caring nature, and the stories we will continue to tell for years to come. He leaves behind his wife of 24 years, Sylvia Tripp; his daughter, Alicia Tripp; son, Chad Tripp; stepson, Reid Farmer (Susan); stepdaughter, Hailey Paley (Justin); and several grandchildren-Bowen Farmer, Parks Paley, Henry Farmer, Ella Paley, and Grey Farmer-who all adored him. He is also survived by his brother, Mike Tripp (Lilly); sister-in-law Pam Tripp, wife of his late brother Jimmy Tripp; cousin Wayne Buck (Linda); niece, Jennifer Taylor (Doug); nephew, Richard Tripp (April); and great-nieces and nephews, Emma Taylor, Hannah Taylor, Logan Tripp and Caleb Tripp.
Glenn's final chapter was marked by the steadfast care and compassion of his niece, Jennifer Tripp Taylor, whose loyalty and love were a constant source of strength and comfort.
A memorial service will be held at Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia, VA, on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow at Brandermill Country Club beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Glenn's love and kindness will live on through the many lives he touched and the lessons he shared.
"To love a person is to learn the song in their heart and sing it to them when they have forgotten."
