Robert V. Richardson, III, devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Midlothian, VA, on February 6, 2026, at the age of 81. Robert, known as Robbie by close friends and family, was born in Hampton, Virginia to Barbara and Vollie Richardson. He grew up there with his brother Jimmy, spending many summers at the family cottage at Grand View beach. He graduated from Christchurch School, where he received the Bishop's Award, then attended the College of William and Mary. Following a tour of duty in Vietnam with the U.S. Army, he graduated from Richmond Polytechnic Institute (now Virginia Commonwealth University).
Robert and his wife of 53 years, Martha, raised their children, Mark and Sarah, in Poquoson, Virginia, where they lived for over 20 years. He built the family home on Lyons Creek and oversaw many years of fun on the water. Robert was a custom home builder and owned a general contracting business in the Tidewater area for two decades. In the second half of his career, as a program manager at Capital One, he became PMP certified and then obtained Advanced Project Management Certification through Stanford University before ultimately retiring from Wells Fargo. Robert served as an advocate and mentor for many project managers throughout his corporate years. He is survived by his wife and children, son-in-law Chris Harrison and daughter-in-law Mara Richardson; grandchildren Baker and Tucker Harrison, and Wilder and Annette Richardson; his brother, and sisters-in-law Lynn Richardson and Mary Ellen Kestel. He loved travel, boating, fishing, and woodworking, and was an avid Yankees fan. He had a ready sense of humor until the end and will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
Robert asked that those wishing to honor his memory consider donating to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation
