Ronald Brookings Obituary
He was born in Arlington, VA. in 1949 to Walter DuBois Brookings, Jr. and Lorene Riggs Brookings. Ron was outgoing and loved by many, and he was a man of many talents. Over the years he worked in the trucking business, the foundry business, and sold mattresses as the owner of Brookings BedCrafters. In his late '50s Ron was diagnosed with stage 4 renal cell cancer, which he bravely fought with determination and a positive attitude for 17 years.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Gail Patterson Brookings, son David McKinley Brookings, daughter-in-law Shelby Taylor Brookings, daughter Katherine Brookings Firestone, son-in-law Nate Firestone, granddaughters McKinley Brookings and Brady Brookings, 3 sisters - Susie Marion Kinney Brookings, Betsy Brookings Mock, and Cynthia Brookings Bachman, sister-in-law Jane Davis, brother-in-law Randy Davis, and many beloved cousins, nephews, and nieces.
A memorial service will take place on Friday, December 1st at 2pm in the Chapel at First Baptist Church on Monument Ave. in Richmond. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society.

My dear Gail,
I am just seeing this today, and I hope you will find it one day. Why today? I woke this morning with your name on my mind, although it has been way too many years since we last saw each other. Perhaps I was dreaming of "1 South, or the 21st floor," but I don't remember that part. I am so sorry to hear of Ron's passing. Sounds like he fought the good fight for a very long time. My condolences to you and your family.
