Ruby Vaughan Newton

Ruby Vaughan Newton, 92, of "Summer Hill", Hanover County, passed away August 4, 2005. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Brockenbrough Newton, II. She is survived by her son, Willoughby Newton, III, and his wife, Paula R. Newton; her daughter, Susan Aven Newton; her sister, Phyllis M. Vaughan; three grandchildren, Blair Newton Jones and her husband, Dr. Gordon Jones, Allison Newton Satchell and her husband, Steve Satchell, Dr. William B. Newton, III, and his wife, Rhett H. Newton; six great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Margaret Jones, Mason and Jake Satchell, and Will and Helen Newton; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Newton was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Hanover Courthouse, and was the first woman to serve on the vestry there. She was a life member of Hanover Historical Society and honorary member of the Richmond Rose Society, where she served as a consulting rosarian when she was an active member and a member emertius of the Hanover Womens Club. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, August 5, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd. Funeral service will be held 4 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Hanover Courthouse. Private interment will be held in Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 441, Hanover, Va. 23069-0441.
