Stanley Dragnich Obituary

Stanley William Dragnich, 89, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Maxine Mays; his son, Steve and his wife, Linda and their son, John; his daughter, Cara Denny and her sons, Dean and Derek Haight; and a great-grandchild, Brandon Haight. He leaves three brothers, Alex of Maryland, Mike and Louie of Washington State. He was born in Republic, Wash., to Nick and Stella Dragnich, who preceded him in death; along with his sister, Yella; and a brother, George. He received his college education at a school he loved - Washington State College, with a degree in civil engineering and his commission as a 2nd Lt., U.S. Army, in 1940. Called to active duty before Pearl Harbor, he served 27 years in the Army and Air Force. He retired in 1967 with the rank of Lt. Col. and spent two years with an engineering firm in Saigon, Vietnam. His military career included tours in Amchitka and Adak, Alaska and France in WW II, and Panama, Greenland and Germany; and several stateside duty stations - Seattle, Walla Walla, Dallas, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. He enjoyed building wooden furniture; cabinets, tables, roll top desks and clocks are now treasured in the homes of family and friends. He enjoyed long summers on Mousam Lake in Shapleigh, Maine. He loved to read, so, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Shapleigh Library (04076) or Habitat for Humanity, where he helped with his carpentry skills. At his request, no services are planned. His ashes will be scattered over Puget Sound.
