Steven Bridges Obituary

BRIDGES, Steven Fisher, of Richmond, Virginia, passed away on May 7, 2024, in his home.

Steven was born on April 24, 1968, in Winston-Salem, NC. He attended Ashbrook High School where he was a highly involved athlete and extracurricular student. Upon graduation in 1986, he attended The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

During his time as a Tar Heel, he attended many sporting events (basketball being an easy favorite) and became president of his professional fraternity Phi Delta Chi, where he met his former wife of 31 years, Ginger Oakley of Melbourne FL, who survives. Steven received a Bachelor's of Science in pharmacy from UNC in 1993, started a family, and began a wonderfully successful and respected career in nuclear pharmacy. He managed pharmacies in Greensboro NC, Charleston SC, and Corpus Cristi, TX. In these places, he found friends who would last the remainder of his life.

As a father, Steve was very involved in the activities of his children. He was a boys scout troop leader, an avid attender of all soccer and basketball games, and steadfast viewer for marching band Fridays and out of town competitions. He also enjoyed a higher level of home improvement, building and curating a backyard pond with the input of his uncle, P.Z. Dunn. Steven was undeniably a lover of nature. From hiking in the southwest with family and friends, to kayaking, fishing, and walks in the woods with his dog, Gracie. Steve was also a National Parks enthusiast, visiting as many as he could along his travels. His favorite place in the world was Bath, NC, where he dreamed of and was actively working to have a place of his own to share with his family and beloved dachshunds, Maddie and Skyler.

Steven is survived by his mother, Teeny "Betty" Anthony (John Anthony) of Winston-Salem; brothers, Brian (Robyn) Bridges of Richmond VA, Drew (Colleen) Bridges of Charleston SC; his three children, Kaitlyn Bridges of Charleston SC, Hunter Bridges of Charleston SC, and Ben Bridges of Melbourne FL; a niece and nephew; and numerous cousins.

His family would like to encourage you join them in remembrance at The View at Morrison Yard in Charleston, SC, on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 4 p.m. If you wish to donate in lieu of flowers, please direct donations to Little Paws Dachshund Rescue at littlepawsdr.org.

I grew up with Steven. We were good friends , if not best friends, from at least kindergarten to high school. I have countless cherished memories and experiences with Steven: from trout fishing in SW Virginia at my parents mountain cabin to summer visits to Gastonia to sleepovers in Winston-Salem to racing bikes through the quaint streets of Bath, NC. You cannot replace a friend you grew up with! I love you, my friend! I am with you always in spirit.

Steve was a friend that I met at the Phi Delta Chi house when pledging there. He was always smiling and had a great sense of humor. I am truly saddened to hear of his passing and offer my sincere condolences to his friends and family. I will leave this photo from those PDC days to hopefully make someone smile at this sad occasion. (I do not know why he has a pot on his head lol)

Steven was my childhood friend when his family lived in Winston-Salem. Steven lived very close to me and his street was the most popular place to ride bikes and play. I will always remember Steven as a sweet, respectful and very good friend to me. My sincere condolences are with Steven's children, sweet Mother (Teeny), brothers and entire family. My heart hurts. RIP.

I went to high school with Steven and he was such a kind and friendly person. I definitely remember that he was a huge Tarheels fan. My thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family.

I remember Steven as a smart, handsome young man from high school who was a genuinely nice person. Great sense of humor, and humble. I know he will be sorely missed.

So very sorry for the loss of Steven!
He & my late son, Charlie Summey were very special friends
Once when Charlie was very ill from a brain tumor Steven went to Simpsonville S. C. To spend the weekend to visit with Charlie & his wife, Julie.
I will never forget what that visit meant to Charlie!

Stevie B. may you rest in peace. You have always been kind and such a great mentor. You always talked about how much you loved your family, North Carolina, and the Tar Heels. You will be missed my friend.
