Sylvia Francis Sheffield

SHEFFIELD, Sylvia Francis, 95, of Cedarfield Retirement Community in Richmond and formerly of Crewe, Va., passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. She was the widow of Edward Royall Sheffield; and was also preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Iris Francis; and her sister, Sue F. Massie. Sylvia is survived by three children, Susan S. Yowell (Stephen) of Waynesboro, Va., Nancy S. Peterson of Lafayette, Colo., and Edward R. Sheffield Jr. (Winston) of West Point, Va.; four grandchildren, Gordon Yowell (Melissa), Lindsay Yowell, Stuart Sheffield (Alex) and Sarah Sheffield; and two great-granddaughters, Haley and Julie Yowell. After earning a B.A. in Music from Mary Washington College, Sylvia went on to teach music in the public schools in Crewe and later, to give piano lessons in her home for over 30 years. Sylvia was a choir director, organist and was active also as a church elder in the Presbyterian church. Due to COVID, the family will hold a private graveside funeral service in Crewe Cemetery.
