Tammy Gammon Obituary
GAMMON, Tammy Graves, transitioned to her eternal home on the afternoon of January 18, 2022, she was 57 years old. Tammy, born in Hanover County, Va., on March 6, 1964, was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Mr. Charles A. Graves and Mrs. Nettie Graves; as well as her brother, Thomas Graves. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 37 years, David E. Gammon (57); and their two children, Dana and Matthew (Amanda); and their three beautiful grandchildren, Daniel (eight), Charlotte (five) and Ryan (six months). She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Mrs. Virginia L. Gammon; sister, Debra Blackwell (Jim); brothers, Michael Graves and Charles Graves Jr. (Debbie); and countless nieces and nephews and loved ones.
Tammy was a member of the Ashland Church of God in Ashland, Va. for more than 32 years. She was blessed to meet and build relationships with so many wonderful men and women of God and she grew to know and love them as they joined together in worship throughout the years.
Tammy answered her calling in the early 1990s as an in-home childcare provider. For nearly 30 years, she welcomed children of all ages into her home. She cared for, valued and nurtured them through perhaps the most developmentally formative years of their lives, but most importantly, she loved each and every one of them as if they were her own. It would be nearly impossible to quantify the hearts and lives that Tammy has touched in nearly three decades. She was a childcare provider, a family counselor, a nurse, a teacher and a confidant to an endless number of families from all walks. She was passionate about what she did and made a huge impact on so many little ones and their families.
There are no words to describe the void that is left behind in the wake of losing a wife, mother and "Gramma." Our hearts break for the light this world has lost and for those who didn't have the opportunity to truly know her. She was bold, she was strong and she was beautiful and to know her was to truly love her. There is peace in knowing that her pain and suffering these past several weeks was not in vain, but rather a necessary stepping stone to an eternity of joy and happiness. We are confident she has, so far, been linked arm-in-arm with her mother and father, catching up on all they have missed together.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Ashland Church of God, 407 Myrtle Street, Ashland, Va. 23005, where a Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 24, 2022, followed by a graveside service at Woodland Cemetery, 11310 Hanover Avenue, Ashland, Va. 23005.
