Tara Drake Obituary

Tara Nicole "Nikki" Drake, age 39, of Virginia Beach, Va., formerly of Richmond, entered into eternal rest April 18, 2004 at her home in Virginia Beach. She was a graduate of Old Dominion University School of Engineering. Miss Drake was employed by the City of Virginia Beach Planning/Development Service Center where she was in charge of the Virginia Beach Town Center Development. She was a member of the Conference of Minority Public Administrators. She was preceded in death by her father, Stanley E. Drake Sr. Surviving are her mother, Carol S. Drake; her goddaughter and niece, Talia Stinson; brother, Stanley E. Drake Jr.; sisters, Karen Stinson and Sonya Drake; nieces, Ashley and Aaliyah Drake; brother-in-law, Elton Stinson; sister-in-law, Michelle Drake; stepmother, Eleanor Drake; aunts, Dora Goodwyn, Alice Williams, Dorothy and Mary Ann Drake and Doris Faircloth; uncles, Horace and David Lee Drake, Charles Thompson and Nathaniel Frazier; host of relatives and friends, two devoted, Linda Smith and Ronald Frink. Her remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. where funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. Rev. Kevin McGill, officiating. I really did not know Tara that well,but as Director of Economic Development, we crossed paths on numerous occassions and our staff members worked with her on a daily basis. The comments and stories that I hear are reflective of a wonderful and caring professional and person. I wished that I could have known her better. We will continue to think of her in fond ways. I was absolutely floored when I got the news on Friday 23 April, 2004, that Nikki had passed. Tears immediately came to my eyes. As I was remembering our basketball days at Marshall-Walker as well as her track and field days. Nikki is such a beautiful lady, with a loving, compassionate heart for all. It is truly a Blessing and an honor to have known such a kind Spirited woman. Nikki, you will be truly missed by me and many.
