He also leaves behind two brothers, Clarence Earl Searles and Charles Wilbur Searles; and one sister, Alice Searles Hairfield. Tommy was born in Richmond, Va. He attended and graduated from Oak Hill Academy in Galax, Va., in 1962. He joined the U.S. Army in 1964 and served in the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1966. He was a member of the Richmond Retired Police Officers Association. Following his retirement with the city, he was employed by the Hanover County Sheriff's Office as a Fingerprint Examiner in 1995, where he worked for 10 years, retiring in 2005. He was a longtime member of New Highland Baptist Church in Mechanicsville, formerly East Highland Park Baptist Church in Richmond. Tommy enjoyed golf and leaves behind many golfing buddies. He and Linda loved to travel. Baseball was his favorite sport, and they managed to see his beloved Atlanta Braves baseball games a few times while traveling. Memories I have of time spent with Tom will be cherished for years to come. He was a generous and warm-hearted neighbor for me and my family for a few short years, but his kindness and influence will have lasting impact on me for many years to come I am sure. With love for his family still dwelling on earth here below - Daniel and the Johnson family

Linda, Jaime, Kevin and the boys, we are so very sorry as you mourn for Tommy. We are praying with and for you all. Tommy was one of our most faithful church members at NHBC. I still recall sitting in Bernard´s family room talking with him and others when I was being considered for the pastorate. He was so kind and helpful. He wore the biggest smile and would do anything for you. May the Lord comfort you and uphold you in these days. Blessings, Bob, Melanie and Isabella

My deepest sympathy to your family. My dad (Sgt. Al McKoy) always spoke highly of Tommy. I still have the Bible that you all gave me as an infant. He was an honorable man that was admired greatly by his coworkers. So very sorry to hear of his passing.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

He taught my academy class on crime scene investigation and evidence handling. He is a legend in the forensics field and we are diminished with his passing. Thank you sharing your knowledge and time for a young recruit way back when.
