Thomas Smith Obituary

SMITH, Thomas C. "Tom" Williams Jr., died peacefully on January 12, 2024, at the age of 85. Tom was born in Charlottesville, raised in Walkerton, proudly served in the Army, and lived and worked in Tappahannock, Virginia. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Anne Garrett New Smith, and is survived by his wife, Ann C. Smith. Tom was a loving father to his daughter, Downi S. Blanton (Joey), his son, T. C. Williams Smith, III (Michele), Brian Pounds (Ellen), and Michelle Kirby. He was also a cherished brother to James G. Smith (Carrie) and sister-in-law Pauline E. Smith. Tom was a proud grandfather to Christopher A. Smith, Lauren T. Smith, Thomas Garrett Blanton (Elizabeth), Anne Lewis Blanton, Hannah Kirby, Collin Pounds, Henry Pounds, and Hugh Pounds. He was also adored by his nieces, nephews, and his faithful companion, Roxie. Tom had a passion for Little League sports, was an avid fan of UVA's football and basketball teams, and enjoyed fishing. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family and his love for the outdoors. Tom was also a member of the Arlington Masonic Lodge #102 Millers Tavern, and a member of the Jamestown Society.

A graveside service to celebrate Tom's life will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Essex Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to the Tappahannock-Essex County Animal Shelter, 540 Airport Road, Tappahannock, VA 22560, in Tom's honor. Faulkner-Funeral Homes, Marks-Bristow Chapel is assisting the family.
