Thomas Stavredes Obituary
Tom spent his career of over 40 year as a dedicated teacher and principal working in multiple schools in Chesterfield County, Richmond City, and Henrico Co. He followed this up by working with future educators through various colleges including his alma mater, the University of Richmond. His former students and colleagues remember his kindness and catch phrase, "If you always do what you've always done, then you'll always get what you've always gotten."
Tom was an active member of the Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox community and served on the Parish Council. He loved history and recorded the Cathedral history for the community. He was a kind friend and leader. He always made sure family knew how much he valued them and never missed sending a birthday card.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evangeline (Vange); and his sister, Constance Ahladas. He is survived by his daughter, Nicole Melton (Dave); four grandchildren, Sawyer, Lia, Gavin, and Stasia; as well as his brother, Pete (Roberta).
A visitation and Trisagion prayer service will be held on Sunday, May 12th, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Bliley's Funeral Home on Augusta Avenue. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 13th, at 10:30 a.m., at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, with lunch afterwards.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Stavredes Scholarship Fund at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Malvern Avenue, or online at www.vagocathedral.org.

My condolences to Mr.Stavredes family..Whoa a name I have not heard since leaving JFK but he left quite an impression on me..I remember him being a big tall solid man and as a kid that was rather imposing to me....I never forgot you sir.

Mr Stavredes started every morning at Tucker High School with an announcement - "If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you have always gotten."
40 years later, and this remains the most influential idea of my life.
I just saw the obituary when I shared that quote in a meeting today and wanted to share my appreciation to the family.

Tom and Vange were our next door neighbors for many years in Kingsley. He and sweet Vange always had a smile. They both were such a wonderful people. I am sure he will be missed by many and his sweet daughter Nicole will continue to carry on his memory.

I will always remember Mr Stavredes as a wonderful teacher and principal. He was my history teacher when I was in the seventh grade and it was his first year of teaching and he knew I didn't care for history. It was my pleasure to see Mr Stavredes many years later when he was the principal at J R Tucker High School where my oldest daughter was beginning her freshman year. He was so humerous when he asked me how could I have a child entering high school when he had a four year old daughter. Mr. Stavredes was a wonderful principal. Mr. Stavredes was a gentleman. He was very good with students like me that had no leadership at home. I had him for history & he was principal . I went to Albert H Hill when he was there. RIP sir
