Tom Enroughty Obituary

ENROUGHTY, Tom, Jr., passed from this world early in the morning of November 29, 2022. Tom's physical presence, charisma, and quick wit made him a "people magnet" wherever he showed up. But nothing defined him more than his marriage to his beloved late wife, Gail. Their 60-year partnership served as a case study in "as good as it gets". Tom's son, Thomas Enroughty III, provided as much comfort as possible for over a year prior to Tom's death. After a stellar career as a sales executive in the automobile after-market, Tom earned a place as a long haul driver with Cox Transportation as a walk-on. Over the coming decades, he held various positions in the company, eventually as a member of management, responsible for the recruitment and training of drivers. As coordinator for the Commonwealth of Virginia for "Wreaths Across America". Tom secured the sourcing, distribution, and arranged wreath-laying ceremonies in Virginia on Wreaths Across America Day (December 17, 2022). On this day, Christmas wreaths will be laid on the graves of fallen American veterans at over 3400 locations worldwide. He served as president of the Virginia Division of the Buick Car Club of America (Tom's vintage cars won several awards at car shows over the years). He was honored by wielding the first shovel at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Richmond Raceway Reimagining, recognizing that he had attended every race since 1959, where he climbed a tree along the backstretch to see. In addition to his wife, Gail, Tom was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Enroughty; his mother, Hollie Shelton; his sister, Barbara Ann Thomson; and his aunt, Fannie Enroughty. He is survived by his son, Thomas N Enroughty III; nephews, Gordon, Donald, and Philip Thomson and their families; beloved cousins, Diane Snow (William) and Frances Dickenson (Dale); brothers-in-law, Edward and Frank Gencarelli and their families and by many, many close friends and family members. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Woody Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. 23116. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wreaths Across America. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.woodyfuneralhomeatlee.com for the Enroughty family.

Tom was one of the warmest and kindest people I worked with at Cox trucking. He had a smile that could light up any room and made anyone who walked in feel as if they'd know him for years. I wish peace for his family at this difficult time and send my condolences on the loss of a very special man.
