Virginia Ann Crute Walker Bushmiller

April 12, 1940 - July 15, 2025

Virginia Ann Crute Walker Bushmiller was born in Richmond, Va., on April 12, 1940, lived in Arlington, Va., for 52 years, and passed away on July 15, 2025 at Reflections Nursing Home in Leesburg, Va. She was the daughter of Thomas David Crute and Virginia Shelton Crute (both deceased); sister of Nancy Crute and Charles Crute (both deceased); and is survived by her brother, T. David Crute and wife, Connie Crute. In 1960 Ginny married Walter G. Walker, Jr. (also deceased). In 1986 she remarried and is survived by Hugh E. Bushmiller. She is survived by three children: James G. Walker 1961, Thomas S. Walker 1962, and Martha A. Kwiterovich 1965; five grandchildren: Adam, Shelton, Lucie, Claire, and Nicholas; and two step-grandchildren, Heather and Aiden.

Ginny attended Collegiate School in Richmond, Va., up to 1956, went to Averett College in Danville, Va., earning an AA in 1958, followed by the University of Richmond, where she earned a BA in English in 1960. Finally, she earned a MA in Computer Science from the American University, Washington, D.C., in 1975.

Virginia worked for the Census Bureau 1966 - 1970 and then the Department of Energy 1970 - 1995 as a Manager, Data Assessment Database, Energy Information Administration until she retired.

From the mid-1970s Virginia was a member of the Association for Computing Machinery as well as an enthusiastic early member of the Association for Women in Computing, serving as Author, Session and Topic Leader, and rising to a Senior Officer in the late-1970s and into the 1980s.

Ginny was a longtime member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Washington, D.C. She was an active member of Daughters of the American Revolution with a keen interest in genealogy and ancestry. She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening. Ginny was fondly known by family as our beloved "Diet Coke Team Champion ".

A graveside service will be held, 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 23rd at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
