Virginia Glasco Obituary
Virginia Stanley Glasco
November 24, 1953 - November 18, 2025
Virginia Mae Stanley Glasco (Ginny) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 18th, after battling frontotemporal dementia. Born in 1953, Ginny was free-spirited and independent, surviving a debilitating disease for nearly two decades.
The oldest of Bill and Alice Stanley's four children, Ginny grew up in Henrico County, attending Glen Lea Elementary. There she was crowned the May Queen in 1966, of which she was always proud. Growing up, she loved horseback riding, especially her horse "Dutchess," which she always claimed was in the same familial line as Secretariat (there seems to be some truth to that). Ginny was 5'1" and thrown many times, but she always got back on that horse.
At Henrico High School, Ginny was part of the Drill Team and entered the nursing program through St. Mary's Hospital. After graduating, she staffed St. Mary's as well as Richmond Memorial. She preferred working the neurological intensive care unit, and as a result, always insisted her sons wear helmets and warned them against ATVs. Ginny had met Rick Glasco while attending Highland Park Methodist Church when they were children. At the time, she didn't realize he was her future husband, but he did. After dating on and off for years, they were finally married in 1978. She was a wonderful mother to her three sons- kind, patient, encouraging, and empathetic- pushing them to follow their dreams and think beyond what was right in front of them. You couldn't ask for a more caring and sweet mother, which made what happened later all the more tragic.
She supported Rick at the family business, Glasco Jewelers, and was passionate about music, especially the Eagles, John Cougar Mellencamp, and Dire Straits. She absolutely loved meeting new people, often saying, "It seems like I have 'Tell Me Your Story' tattooed on my forehead." She was incredibly proud when her oldest son, Dustin, chose to attend college in Savannah to study film. Some of her best times in life were spent touring historic Savannah with Rick while listening to local bands, making several trips during Dustin's time there. She also loved the water, especially the Outer Banks and the Rappahannock River. However, in 2009, Ginny experienced a sudden decline, and things weren't the same. But she never forgot her sons, and she never forgot her husband.
She was welcomed into heaven by her doting parents, Bill and Alice, and her sister, Mary "Sissy" Stanley. She is survived by her devoted husband and longtime caregiver, Rick Glasco; sons, Dustin Glasco (Lynsey), Jay Glasco, and Will Glasco (Kara); grandchildren, Kaleigh, Carter, Finlay, and Cullan; brothers, William "Bubba" Stanley, Jr. (Cheryl) and Tim Stanley (Kim); as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
Always passionate about horticulture and her garden, a memorial service for Ginny will be held at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden on Sunday, January 11th. The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. with a service at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. Many, many thanks to Ginny's wonderful caregivers, Wanda Booker, Jocelyn Booker, and Rena Lipscomb, for going above and beyond and being there until the very end. "You better let somebody love you, before it's too late."
