Walter Tudor Obituary

TUDOR, Walter Lee, Jr., "Walt," passed away peacefully on May 12, 2021, after a valiant, 10-year battle with cancer.

Walt is survived by his three children, Whitney Bailey (Charles), Catherine Storey (Andrew) and Ross Tudor (Laura); five grandchildren, Kendall, Lauren and Charlotte Bailey and Sarah and Ben Storey; and his sister, Ann Levasseur (Richard). He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Sr. and Sarah Tudor; and his brother, Billy Tudor.

Born in Washington, D.C. on February 9, 1943, Walt was raised in a tight-knit, blue collar household. He spent his youth working at the family drugstore before graduating from Anacostia High School in 1960. He attended High Point University, graduated from Southeastern University and then embarked on a lifelong career in banking, marketing and advertising. Though he accomplished quite a bit in his career, he was always especially proud of his work on the famous "Virginia Is For Lovers" campaign.

In his earlier years, Walt was an avid golfer, tennis player and outdoorsman, and looked back especially fondly on his days spent hunting on Jack Mountain in Highland County. He was an engaging storyteller, an outstanding cook and a diehard fan of the Yankees, Redskins and Tar Heels. Walt was known for his quick wit and his wonderful sense of humor — the family delighted in seeing him break into uncontrollable laughter.

In his later years, Walt's primary focus was on being a dedicated father and grandfather. He remained a friend, mentor and confidant to each of his children, all the way to his final days. Hardly a day went by over his last 30 years when he didn't see or speak to all three of his children — a true mark of the mutual love and affection felt between a father and his children. He considered raising three children and five grandchildren to be the greatest joy of his life.

The family will celebrate his life in a private ceremony in June. Those wishing to share their condolences or honor his life may send remembrances to Ross Tudor, 5208 Devonshire Rd., Richmond, Va. 23225.
