Weene Lehman Obituary

Weene Lehman

Passed away on Saturday December 21, 2024.

She always made everyone feel special. With her genuine interest in people and fine-tuned listening skills, she never missed an opportunity to befriend, connect, and advise.

Weene was born February 3, 1939, to Harry and Estelle Hyman, of blessed memory (OBM). She grew up in Waynesboro, VA with her late sister Joan (Joe), sister Judy (Jerry), and little brother Fella (Sheila). She loved sharing small town life with them and all of their cousins, being a Waynesboro High School Little Giant, and proudly shopping at their family's Hyman's Department Store.

Weene came to the big city of Richmond to attend RPI (then a satellite school of William and Mary, now VCU). She earned her BA in fashion design, met lifelong best friends, and worked her way to the top of THE Alvin Lehman's dance card. Married in 1960, their life together (57 years) was one adventure after another as they travelled the world with their best friends.

Alvin (OBM) & Weene's mishpacha grew with the birth of their daughters: Ellen Renee (Louis), Michele, Adrienne (Eddie), and Hilary (Elliott) and all their nieces, nephews, and cousins who were each an important part of the gang. Weene's nachas grew even larger when she became a Bubbe to grandchildren Jennifer (Alon), Rebekah (Josh), Samantha (Matt), Stefanie, Ellie, Benjamin, Emory, Izabella, and Robby and to great grandsons Alvin and Joey.

In her last year she showed us her fierce strength as she forged a new active life with her many new (and old) friends at Avery Point. There wasn't a day that went by that Weene didn't marvel at her good fortune to have been so blessed.

A funeral was held graveside on Sunday December 22, 2024. The family will sit Shiva for the week.

I worked with Weene in the Baby Department at Buttons & Bows. She was such a wonderful person and I learned so much from her. She was always so helpful and full of suggestions and ideas. She loved her family and friends and they were all so nice when they came in the store. She always sent lovely cards with thoughtful notes. Weene called me after my husband died and helped me deal with grief. She was truly a special person who will be missed by many!

I worked at AP for almost a year, working on new home construction. When the new building BP was ready to open, I met Ms Lehman to assist with her moving into her new home. What a fantastic lady, full of energy and pride for her family. I was fortunate to be given a tour of all of her treasures including the clothes she made for her girls. Everyday after she moved in, I was able to see her in the community and get the latest update. She was so full of pride for her family, she just couldn't hold back telling me the latest. I'm so proud to have known her and her girls when they visited. She was and is in memory, one of a kind. So glad I had a minute to speak to her almost everyday. God Bless her and her family.......

To Adrienne & the whole Lehman family,
My condolences to you all. Mrs. Lehman was one of the kindest & most awesome ladies I have ever known. She used to drive carpool to hebrew school & would always stop at 7-11 & let us go in & get whatever teeth rotting stuff we wanted. She made my yarmulkes for my bat mitzvah. How cool. I will always remember these things about her. Please know that you all are in my thoughts & prayers.
