William Herman Bays, Jr.

William Herman Bays, Jr. "Bill", 85 of North Chesterfield, VA passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 5, 2025. He was born July 23, 1939, in Appalachia, VA to the late Louise Collier Bays and William Herman Bays, Sr. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Anne Hudson Bays and son, William Stuart Bays, Sr. He is survived by his sons, John (Tracie), Stephen (Christina); daughter-in-law, Cynthia; grandchildren, Will (Alaynna), Julia (Connor), Chris (Alley), Connor (Katie), Corey (Jordan), Sarah, Tyler and Drew; great-grandchildren, Paxton, Brooks and Hartley and sister, Barbara Bays Verthein.

Bill graduated from Appalachia High School in 1957 as salutatorian and earned the senior superlative of "King of the School". He attended UVA where he met the love of his life, Anne and they married in 1960. Bill spent his entire career with Exxon, rising through the ranks and retiring at age 55. He loved his kids, grandkids, great grandkids, the beach and UVA sports!

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to University of Virginia (UVA) Health Foundation, P.O. Box 37963, Boone, IA 50037. Please indicate in the memo that your gift is in memory of William H. Bays, Jr. for allocation code 22666. A private family service will be held to honor Bill's life.

Saddened to hear of Bill´s death. He was one of the good guys and will be missed. I did not know his oldest son had died. Condolences to John and the Bay´s family.
